Medicaid

Medicaid is a jointly funded federal and state government health insurance plan designed for those who meet certain eligibility criteria as defined by law.

While a primary eligibility criterion is financial resources, it is not the only criteria and individuals may become eligible through additional components of Medicaid eligibility. As a result, no one should automatically assume they would not be eligible for Medicaid assistance for purposes of long term care.

To apply for Medicaid, an individual must file an application with either their local county Department of Social Services or through an approved Medicaid Assistance eligibility site.

Once approved for Medicaid, the recipient may move to a different county within the State of Colorado and have their Medicaid case transferred to the county where they have moved without loss of benefits. This transfer function does NOT apply between different states.

All Medicaid applications are required to be processed and a determination of eligibility is to be made no later than 45 days following the date of the application.
